Getting from Folkestone to London by train

After spending a sunny day out in Folkestone, we walked back to Folkestone Central station from the town centre – it’s only about a 10-minute walk away. We had already booked our train tickets online, so we went straight to platform 1 from which our train to London Charing Cross was due to depart.

We boarded a Southeastern train in the evening – this time it was a little busier than in the morning so we didn’t manage to get our table seats but we sat in two forward-facing seats in Standard Class.

It took us a little over an hour and a half to get from Folkestone to London. Halfway through our journey, the train driver announced that we would make an extra stop in Orpington – it’s in the south-east of London – before calling at London Bridge, Waterloo East and finally Charing Cross. We sat back, relaxed and watched the world go by, while also making use of the free WiFi available on board.

Despite the extra stop, our train still arrived on time in London. Getting off at London Charing Cross station, we went for a walk in the city centre and then headed back home.

Overall, our train trip was quite comfortable, and we also saved a bit of money when booking as we used our Railcards
